Puri. Due to the outbreak of Corona virus in the country, this year’s grand Ratha Yatra in Jagannath Puri was carried out in a very simple way. Keeping the infectious virus in mind and taking all the precautionary steps, the first ritual was conducted at 12.10 pm in Jagannath Puri. Let me tell you that the servants of the temple of Goddess Subhadra connected with black horses started pulling. Earlier in the morning, Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra Devi were brought from the sanctum sanctorum and seated in the chariots. Puri Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati and Gajapati Maharaj Dibyasingh Deb also came to worship. It is worth mentioning that it is one of the oldest historical places in India and for the first time in the history of almost 2500 years, devotees were not present and were sitting in homes while taking Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra.
Let us tell you that due to the outbreak of Corona virus, the city of Puri was sealed and 1172 servants of the temple will take the temple to Gundicha temple. For this 2.5 km trek, the temple committee had to complete the journey to Delhi as many institutions along with the temple committee demanded the government to try again for the rath yatra after the Supreme Court stayed. The verdict came in favor of the temple committee and a wave of excitement raged in the city of Puri. After completing the rath yatra on Tuesday, Lord Jagannath along with his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra will go to Gundicha temple, two and a half km from the main temple of their aunt’s house. After staying here for seven days, we will again reach the main temple on the eighth day. A total of nine days of festivities take place in the city of Puri. The temple committee had already decided that common people would be kept away from both these temples during the entire festival. Section 144 will remain in force even after the lockdown is lifted in Puri.
