It is too early to think about organizing the 13th season of IPL: BCCI

- Advertisment -

Mumbai. Despite the Sports Complex and the stadium being allowed to open conditionally amid the ongoing lockdown due to Corona virus, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) says that it is too early to think about organizing the IPL in the current situation.

The government on Sunday announced to extend the lockdown across the country by 31 May. The Ministry of Home Affairs had issued guidelines that despite the lockdown, sports complexes and stadiums across the country can be opened without audience. However, the ban on the organization of such tournaments continues in which there is a possibility of gathering a large number of spectators. The BCCI has welcomed the government’s order.

BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal said on Monday that even though the government has given permission to open the stadium, there is a ban on air travel across the country till 31 May and in the current situation it is too early to think about organizing the 13th season of IPL. . The BCCI postponed the IPL indefinitely in April, following a nationwide lockdown due to the corona virus and a ban on the arrival of foreign passengers.

Asked if the BCCI is considering an IPL event this year, Dhumal said it was too early to think about the tournament in the current situation. He said that after removing the ban on foreign travel around the world, looking at the cricket calendar, one has to see the window for the IPL. Meanwhile, the franchise teams of the IPL are awaiting the BCCI’s decision on its planning.

The CEO of one of the franchises of IPL said that the government’s order would affect the BCCI and this would create a positive situation for the conduct of the IPL.

The Indian team also has to visit Sri Lanka in July where they have to play a series of three ODIs and T20 matches. Dhumal said that Sri Lankan cricket has expressed its desire to host the series by writing a letter to the BCCI in this regard, but it is not possible to say whether the team will be able to travel to Sri Lanka for this series without the government’s directive.
